The Butters Hygienics Nail & Cuticle Serum Review - Press sample

Hi all! I hope you are all well and staying healthy (and home if possible). We are ten days into our stay at home order, which feels like a whole year at this point. I've been spending a lot more time on my hobbies, and cleaning house which put me in the position where I really needed to step up my skincare/hand care game in order to keep swatching polish. Lucky for me, The Butters Hygienics reached out and asked if I'd like to try out their nail serum!

The Butters Hygienics Botanical Nail & Cuticle Serum's big claims are that it's quick absorbing, cuticle softening, and nail strengthening. Since you all know I like to put things to the test, that's exactly what I did! But before we dive more into that, let's check out that ingredients list: Sesame oil, grapeseed oil, isopropyl myristate, apricot kernel oil, castor oil, carrot seed oil, avocado oil, vitamin e tocopherol, lemon EO, grapefruit EO, lavender EO, natural flavor. As you can see, there are a lot of great oils known to be good for moisturizing skin, and a couple that are packed with vitamin E.

The Nail & Cuticle Serum comes in this huge .6oz roller ball style tube. I know that doesn't sound like a lot, but in general cuticle oil tends to come in .5oz bottles or less. For $10 this is an excellent price point for anyone wanting to step up their cuticle care. I've always been a fan of roller ball applications for these types of products, but I've never encountered a metal one before. I quite enjoyed this one because it dispenses just enough product without overwhelming the area.

cuticle oil application photo

This is a quick photo I took immediately after oiling my cuticles and side walls. You'll notice a little sheen, but a good portion of the oil absorbed in the few minutes it took me to setup and take this photo. That's a big deal for me since I don't like sitting around with oily cuticles (who does). This oil has a very light lavender scent, but it's hardly noticeable, which is something else I really like about this formula. While I enjoy a little bit of lavender, the scent can be overwhelming for me at times. I didn't at all feel overwhelmed by the scent and actually found that I had to smell my hand at close proximity to even notice it.

Regarding the claims that The Butters Hygienics Nail & Cuticle Serum made, I have a few thoughts. Oils are well... oil. They are only absorbed so quickly because that's the nature of their formula. Despite this, I think the oils chosen plus the application method aided in a relatively quick absorption rate. As oils often do, this softened my cuticles so that claim also checks out. Regarding nail strengthening... I can't really speak on this one. I don't have many issues with breaks these days, but I contribute that to a few habits I developed over my years of swatching. One of these habits was keeping my hands, cuticles, and nails well moisturized. While I can't specifically say that The Butters Hygienics made my nails stronger, I can say that keeping your nails moisturized in general will make them more pliable and break resistant.

Overall I really enjoyed trying out The Butters Hygienics Nail & Cuticle Serum and would love to try out other products from their line. The Mojito Raw Sugar & Key Lime Anti-Aging Scrub really caught my eye as did the Dahlia x Lychee Aloe X Shea Body Moisturizer. You can find The Butters Hygienics linked below.
