VENeffect Research and Review
Saturday, April 25, 2015I was recently contacted by VENeffect to try some of their anti-aging products. The products were created as an alternative to getting a prescription for estrogen cream. They sent over a pr packet and a the samples in the photo below.
I was previously unfamiliar with phytoestrogens (or so I thought) until I did a bit of research. From what I found, there doesn't seem to be much proof that phytoestrogens (such as soy bean seed extract) work in cosmetic form. The one potentially reputable source I found suggests that it may be useful for post-menopausal women. Well, I don't know if you've seen a photo of me, but I am certainly not in that demographic. VENeffect does not mention post-menopausal women on their website at all, which makes the premise of their products misleading.
To be honest, the only reason I will continue to review these is because I can give you an ingredient breakdown and an overall idea of what the smell, texture and absorption is like.
Anti-Aging Intensive Moisturizer
I went through the ingredients list of each product to find out where the phytoestrogens were locacted. They were listed as follows: Vitis Vinifera (Grape) Seed Extract (ingredient #14), Trifolium Pratense (Red Clover) Flower Extract (ingredient #15), Glycine Soja (Soybean) Seed Extract (ingredient #16).
Smell: old musty floral perfume
Texture: thick
Potential Irritants: Carbomer
Comedogenic: Olea Europaea (Olive) Fruit Oil (2)
Anti-Aging Eye Treatment
The key phytoestrogens appeared in this order: Vitis Vinifera (Grape) Seed Extract (ingredient #15), Trifolium Pratense (Red Clover) Flower Extract (ingredient #17), Glycine Soja (Soybean) Seed Extract (ingredient #18)
Smell: similar to the moisturizer
Texture: it was separated into an oil & cream. Thinner than the moisturizer
Potential Irritants: Sorbitan Stearate, Carbomer
Comedogenic: There are several low rated ingredients, but it shouldn't be a problem for most.
Anti-Aging Lip Treatment
Out of all the products, the key phytoestrogens appeared higher in the ingredients list in the Anti-Aging Lip Treatment. They appeared as follows: Vitis Vinifera (Grape) Seed Extract (ingredient #12), Trifolium Pratense (Red Clover) Flower Extract (ingredient #13), Glycine Soja (Soybean) Seed Extract (ingredient #14)
Smell: like sunscreen
Texture: thin
Potential Irritants: Cetearyl Alcohol,
Comedogenic: Cetearyl Alcohol
If you aren't a post-menopausal woman, all VENeffect will provide is a bit of moisture. At $85 to $185 per product, you would be greatly overpaying for something you could get out of a drugstore brand.
