Firecracker Lacquer's What Are You Afraid Of? Part 1

Friday, September 12, 2014

I freaking love Halloween and everything to do with Autumn. The typical (and expected) green, orange, black and purple polishes are great, but I like something out of the box. When Kendahl told me about her Halloween line inspired by fears I got really excited and kind of creeped out at the same time. It's certainly a tough concept to attempt because it needs to represent the fear without making the wearer squeamish.

Firecracker Lacquer She's Got Legs

She's Got Legs is a mocha brown crelly with black micro bars and white glitters. This lacquer represents a fear of the sneaky little 8-legged creatures that like to hang out in showers, under your sheets, and in your shoes. This is easily my biggest fear. Before we moved into our house our family and friends told us to bomb it. I'm stubborn, and not a fan of chemicals so we decided to forgo it. Without going into too much detail, let's just call last year the year of large spiders. The formula on this was a nice consistency and required three coats for full coverage.

The Void

The Void is a scattered holographic black sprinkled with holographic black and silver glitters, and a hint of charcoal glitter. This lacquer represents a complete void of light, whether that be death, space, or just utter darkness. While the thought of nothingness is pretty dang scary, if the void looks anything like it's namesake, I could definitely get used to it! The formula was super smooth and required two coats for full coverage.

Type O Negative

Type O Negative is a deep red jelly with holographic red glitters and blue squares. This lacquer represents both a fear of blood, but also a fear of having the rarest blood type. I don't fear blood, but I have a strong dislike of needles. My suggestion? Paint your nails with this when you need to have blood drawn. The sparkles are so distracting that you would forget what's happening. The formula was a great consistency and required three coats for nearly full coverage. If you wanted to build it up to be extra squishy, a fourth coat would do the trick.

They All Float Down Here

They All Float Down Here is a soft pink creme with glitters in dark orange, neon pink, hot orange, and bright blue. This lacquer represents a fear of clowns; of creatures in face paint with fake laughs and big feet. I don't love clowns, but the name of this gorgeous color is enough to freak most people out. The formula was perfect and required three coats for full coverage.
