Wahkeena Falls & Fairy Falls Hike

Monday, March 23, 2015

Every time we go hiking I feel so lucky to live in the Pacific Northwest. It really is paradise for anyone who likes the outdoors. This adventure took us from Wahkeena Falls to Fairy Falls with a stop at Lemmon's Viewpoint on the return trip.

Wahkeena Falls The Gorge

When we arrived the parking lot was packed! It's not hard to see why with a view like this from the road.

If you are an experienced hiker or someone who enjoys a full day of hiking, you could normally continue on to Multnomah Falls, Angels Rest or Devils Rest. Unfortunately, the turn to hike to Multnomah closed due to downed trees.

Wahkeena Falls The Gorge Pika

I was really hoping we would get to see a Pika (aka the real Pikachu) on our hike, but I think it was too populated and too late in the day.

The hike to the top of Wahkeena Falls was mostly paved, so it wasn't too difficult. After that it was a steep climb with a ton of switchbacks. This hike made my hips hurt big time. Yet again, this hike happened the day after my max effort squat day, so that certainly didn't help.

There was an opportunity to stop at Lemmon's Viewpoint between Wahkeena Falls and Fairy Falls, but it was busy so we decided to visit it on the way back.

Fairy Falls turned out to be just as neat as the photos, but it was honestly better in person.

Nothing like a shameless selfie after hiking up 800 feet in elevation =)

The view from Lemmon's Viewpoint was incredible. No matter how many hikes we do in the Gorge, I always have to take a photo and admire nature's work.
